The New Locations
Steve Gulbin and Jon Owens are using what their late colleague and friend taught them as they branch out on their own with two new Marc’s Tattooing and Body Piercing studios. The partners and long-time friends have opened studios at 1500 N. Church St. in Hazle Township and on Route 315 near Wilkes-Barre. The two worked under Franco Kossa, who passed away recently, at other Marc’s Tattooing studios. Gulbin said they learned the business side of tattooing from him.
“Franco wasn’t an artist and wasn’t a piercer; he was a businessman who loved this industry,” Gulbin said. “He always pushed quality and for us to strive to be the best. Our quality standards were set by our founder, Marc Fairchild. Franco took what Marc taught us to the next level.” Gulbin and Owens now want to use what Kossa has taught them. ”We have over 15 combined years of service with Marc’s Tattooing and are both experienced piercers in the industry, who had been managing Marc’s Tattooing locations for years prior,” Gulbin said.
The new studios are staffed by experienced artists, all of whom previously worked at Marc’s Tattooing, he said. ”They continue to operate under the same high standard of artistry, cleanliness and customer service … (and) are as fully trained and certified as they can be,” he said. Gulbin and Owens purchased franchise rights and the right to use the Marc’s Tattooing name from Fairchild. Gulbin said he enjoys his work because it makes people happy.
“There is no greater feeling for me than to see somebody beaming after they get their tattoo. They are so excited,” he said. Fairchild opened the original Marc’s Tattooing in 1993 and had a presence in Northeastern Pennsylvania over the last two decades.
